Sciontec Liverpool looks to the future of remote working

Sciontec Liverpool, a strategic and placemaking organisation, has put money behind improvements for Liverpool Science Park.

The investment will go towards a three-storey lobby and entrance area off Mount Pleasant. This new space will include an area for flexible coworking.

Work is underway. The project is due to be completed in March, and has continued throughout the COVID-19 lockdown.

Colin Sinclair, chief executive of Sciontec Liverpool and director of Liverpool Science Park, said: “The upgraded entrance way features have been designed in response to changing customer demands, providing spacious areas in which our science and tech community can work, socialise and collaborate within an innovative environment.”

It’s great to see companies planning for communal and coworking areas again, planning for the coming future when social distancing is no longer a concern as well as the probable rise in employees keeping their remote working practise.

Co-working spaces are usually associated with freelancers and the self-employed, but they can also be lifesavers for remote workers. Working from home just doesn’t suit everyone, as it blurs the boundaries between work-time and home-time to a degree that some people find unhelpful.

A unique city-centre co-working space like this would definitely be perfect for remote workers to create that distance between their home-selves and their work-selves, and so become more productive and satisfied.

Our Self-Service Module (SSM) enables employees to clock themselves in and out from an internet browser or a mobile app, as well as allowing them to request holidays and register doctor appointments.

Most importantly for sceptical business owners, if employees use the mobile phone app version of this module, their movements can be tracked through GPS and plotted onto a map.
